Meet Elsie

I work at a yarn store one day a week.  And if you know me well you know I can start a lovely conversation with a light post when it comes to needlework.....nonetheless, a customer came in and I don't know how it happened but we started talking about Singer Featherweight sewing machines.  She lived in California and she and her husband travel around the USA.  On their excursions they happen to pick up Featherweight sewing machines.  They clean them up if necessary and then sell them.  I expressed my desire to own one of these darlings.  Well, dreams do come true.  She moved to Florida to be closer to her family and stopped in the yarn store a couple of weeks ago.  AND here's a pic of MY Singer Featherweight which I named in honor of my Great Grandmother, Elsie.  She is a gem and sews just as I expected!!  I can't wait to start a small table quilt!!

Here's a pic of some cute bags I stitched up using Elsie.  The bags are a free pattern from Moda using their Honey Buns.  The fabric is from the Blackbird Design ladies called Beach House.  I really like how they turned out!!  Elsie did a FANTASTIC job!!

What a beautiful sewing machine!!! I can't wait to see all that you'll do with her. I love your little bags, too! If you feel the need to sell any, let me know!

Congratulations, Cari! I have a featherweight too, but it's currently under the weather, so to speak. I have to figure out why she's not happy and get her fixed. :( Nice sewing job on those little bags!

You are so, so lucky to have one of those machines. I have heard that they are the best to sew on! And I love your bags. I'll have to check the Moda site to see if it's there. These could come in handy for a lot of things! You did a wonderful job with them!

Aunt Hortense had one that Jane's Daughter, Megan and I used to sew on all the time...scared the snot out of me!!!! THat needle went so fast I thought I'd make a table runner out of my fingers. I think I always made Megan sew on it because I was used to my mom's...a little less risky!!! Beautiful name for a beautiful machine!
