Practice Piece

I decided to polish up my '1 over 1' stitching skills and did this piece.  It's The Gilded Cage by Carriage House Samplings stitched on 32 count Lakeside Linen Lentil using the called for NPI fiber.

On '1 over 1' I can never tell the actual size of the piece from the picture.  I need someone to put a quarter by it so I can tell. So here it is with my quarter..blurry and all. But you get the idea.  It was a fun stitch and didn't take long at all.

And shouldn't I be starting my Christmas stitching in July?  Well, yes I should, but I started my July stitching in July.  Here's my start of Sheepish Designs 'Betsy' stitched on 35 count Weeks Dye Works Parchment.

The instructions called for DMC or NPI.  I knew with my stash of 10,692 skeins of NPI it would be no problem pulling the called for colors.  AND...you know this is coming...I only had ONE, yes...that's ONE of the called for colors!! DANG, DANG, DANG.  Not to be disgruntled, I decided to check out my enormous stash of silks, pulled out the AVS drawer and used my 'on hand' colors.  I think Betsy looks pretty darn good.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your stitching time!!

Oh my gosh! I love your over one Gilded Cage!!!! Wow! I knew I needed to stitch this one, and now you've made me wonder if I should stitch it over one. Hmmmm. Love Betsy too! You've chosen great colors! Don't you hate it when you don't have the right colors in your stash for what is called for? Happens to me alllll the time!

Wow! I'm so impressed with your over one stitching! I think I would be blind after that project. :)
How do you plan to finish it? Whatever you do, I'm sure it will be great.
Love your Betsy too. Good luck with the colors.
Hugs to you!

The Gilded Cage is gorgeous! It looked HUGE until you put the quarter next to it. It's tiny!!!

Your "Guilded Cage" is gorgeous and every stitch perfect, too! That's not easy!!! Betsy looks great and how is it that we can have a gazillion fibers and none of them are ever the right colors??? So frustrating!
Hugs to you sweet friend!

Wow, your "practice piece" looks fantastic. Great over one stitching. In my eyes you're a brave stitcher for stitching a whole piece over one, lol.
I love Betsy which is in my stash and should be started real soon ...

Love your personal conversion on Betsy - I love AVAS silk anyway and Betsy - LOVE IT ! I had a rug canvas made up out of this Betsy chart but somehow it got lost in the move and I haven't seen it since - BOOO but I did recently see my Betsy WIP - need to pull that pretty girl out - A guild friend just finished her - such a cute design and the over 1 piece - WOW - really neat. Have a great week! mel
