Cari Makes

There's a new craft magazine published in the UK called Mollie Makes.  It is such a fun magazine.  I subscribed to it and receive a digital copy...so 21st century here !!  LOL

The cover of the first issue showed these adorable apple cozies...apple cozies??  Who would need or want an apple cozy...well ME, of course.  I grabbed the pattern and some cotton yarn stash and started my first cozy.  hmmmm......did I follow the instructions correctly???  Was there an error on the pattern?? I searched the internet for errata....none to be found.  Here's my first apply cozy.

I ran out of the green yarn so I added the blue and orange to finish the exact number of rounds called for in the pattern.  Yikes...how huge are the apples in the UK...papaya maybe but an apple??

Oh I get it...it's an apple hat...not a jacket.  Maybe it's a cat hat !!!

I think Belle looks stunning.  Belle....not so much Mom !!

So I decided to search for UK crochet terms vs American terms...and what to you know.... in the UK the term DC means single crochet, while in the USA the term DC means double crochet !!  Yikes.. no wonder the size.  So a started up again and here's the result....

Now...how's that for fun???

So cute sister! Love them! Yeah, Belle looks not too thrilled about the kitty hat! Can she say "exploitation?" You've been so busy crocheting!

I love your apple cozies! I discovered the hard way about the differences in terminology too. :)
How in the world did you ever get Belle to sit still for that? What a good sport. :)

The apple cozies are adorable. The cat looks pissed but I think she is a cutie.

Oh, my! I need to learn to knit or crochet or something!!! Beats hauling out my machine and totes of fabric. LOL! Not that I mind, it's just a lot of work...

I think I could handle a few apple cozies. :)

Oh my gosh! I'm laughing here over the huge apply cozy! lol! Poor Belle! She's very cooperative though! I do love how the cozies came out in the end. So cute! You're the second person to mention this Molly Makes magazine. Ok, maybe i should subscribe after all. And remember that the UK thinks DC is single crochet. lol! Loooove the cozies!

Those are too cute. And thanks for the heads up on the differences between UK directions and ours. You know I would have made those flowers and they would have been ginormous!!

You know, that's really strange cos I always thought DC was double crochet. And usually we're the same as the Brits so that's double crochet strange LOL.

Love the cosies and love the cat. One of my girls needs a hat cos her ears are so damn cold in the winter. Poor pussy.

Oh my gosh, how cute!! Both the cat with the hat, looking mightily cozy, and the apple cozies! ;) My neighbor stopped me the other day, asking if I knew the American terms for crochet and how the correlate to the British terms. I sent my daughter over and the two of them figured it out! Great job on the cozies--I've heard nice things about the magazine.

You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, indeed.
